Do I have to have any experience?

No, we train based on your current abilities.

What age children do you train?

With the techniques used, we train  anyone 15 or older. This is due to the risk of a young mind not realizing the possibility of inflicting injury on a fellow student with simple techniques.

Is this like MMA?

No, this is a traditional art. We do NOT strike to the face.

Will I get hurt?

As with all arts (and sports), there is always a risk. We make training at a safe level our main priority.

When will I get promoted in rank?

How long should I take Ju-Jitsu?

NEVER ask that question. It is about goals and improving your skill-set, not the color of your belt.

Is there a membership or commitment?

No, it’s month to month

Any martial art is a lifelong commitment. Maintaining muscle memory for self-defense is crucial.

Is Ju Jitsu a sport?

No, it is an art.

What is the traditional Ju Jitsu uniform (Gi), worn in class?


A Judogi (Judo Gi)



Do I have to be a member of the Gym? (Where the Dojo is located)


No, Ho'on Dojo students are required to pay their monthly Dojo dues of course, but do not have to be a member of The Gym itself, but without a separate membership at The Gym, you will only be able to access the Ju Jitsu classes, and not utilize the gym itself, (free weights, treadmills, equipment), etc.


What is one of the things that is not allowed at Ho'on Dojo?


Egos

What does Ho'on mean?


It means "To return a favor"

Does this self-defense work in real life?

Yes, Sensei Brian has used his training in self-defense a few times in the past twenty years to defend himself.

What types of arts (Ryu) does this encompass?

Judo, Aikido and Karate

What “takeaways” will I get from this class?

Confidence, respect, honor and the ability to defend yourself and your family.

Where did Ju Jitsu come from?

Its origins can arguably be traced to Buddhist monks of India, Jiu-Jitsu (sometimes referred to as ‘Ju-Jitsu’) in its now modern form comes from Japan. This art was a battlefield art of the Samurai of Japan.

Where did Judo come from?

It’s founder,  is Kanō Jigorō, (Jigoro Kano, 1860-1938), born in Shinnosuke.
